Our team has expanded! We’re thrilled to announce that we have a new massage therapist at Norwood Chiropractic. Alex graduated from SHI Integrative Medical Massage School in 2012 and led his own private practice until joining us. He is proficient in Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, TMJ, sacroiliac/iliosacral dysfunctions and muscle energy techniques. Read on to learn more about Alex and his background as well as our current massage special.

 

How did you get into massage work?

I have always enjoyed helping others and I enjoy working with my hands. Massage therapy was a perfect fit for me. It enlightened me and helped me understand/treat my own dysfunctions and pains. My goal is to give that back to other people and help them increase their quality of life.

 

What is the most common complaint you have from patients?

Tightness in between shoulder blades — usually rhomboids — caused by poor posture. Scalenes, Piriformis and quadratus lumborum are the muscles I treat the most frequently. We also treat a lot of whiplash injuries mainly focusing on the posterior and anterior muscles of the neck.

What advice would you give to someone who has never had a massage before?

There are no negative side effects when it comes to massage therapy. Ignore the stereotypes and stigmas associated with massage therapy and try it out — it will change your life.

What is the best way to prepare for a massage?

Make sure you are hydrated, get plenty of rest, turn your phone off and allow yourself to be completely in the moment and in tune with your body.

What about after a massage?

Hydration is key. Drink lots of water and stretch.

What are some things that patients can do to stay proactive and healthy?

Each patient is unique, so the stretches/treatments vary from patient to patient. Foam rolling, yoga, stretching, hydration and staying active are all very important in maintaining good muscle health.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Spend time with friends with family. My main goal in life is to positively affect anyone and everyone I can. Life’s not about how much you make, or what kind of car you drive, or the size of the house you live in. Life is about how you affect others, that is how you will be remembered.
